Restaurant Website

Hey guys,

I am one of the managers at this pizza place and took over the website after the company that designed it went out of business.

I am thinking of re-doing it, maybe a fresh design. I need to keep it simple though as we have a wide range of customers whol ook at the site, from teeangers to eldery.
Wouldn't mind some feedback and maybe some ideas.

I defintaley want to add some sort of navigation menu on every page instead of the "return home" button.

My skill set is not the highest. I can figure outmost html stuff and use Dreamweaver, the one thing I'm not very good at is graphc design/ photoshop type stuff. I

Thanks for your thoughts.

I designed a website for a pizza shop years ago. The same rules apply. Make your plan to describe what pages you want and what goes on each page. Organize the links to those pages. You may feel tempted to use fancy fonts, but you should use text links or alt attributes for image links. Remember that some people are visually impaired and may not be able to read fancy fonts.

Make sure your site navigation is simple and your pages are quick to load. People will be browsing when they are hungry! Include nice photos of food on plates. Many people make the mistake of scanning a menu and including it as a jpg image. Search engines can't read the words and neither can the text editors for the visually impaired. You could scan a menu and create a pdf that can be translated to html by Google. Or you can create a web page with the items and prices in text. Remember that price changes must be easy to make.

You probably won't need a form since people won't read email for orders. Make sure the name, address and phone number is at the top of each web page. Some businesses even accept orders by fax. If yours does, include the fax number on every page. A local pizza shop near me does accept orders by fax, so that is why I thought of it. If you have delivery, mention take out or dine in on the page.

You probably have a logo, so we don't have to discuss that. And the color scheme is usually red, white and green as seen in the Italian flag or food. Will you be offering coupons that could be printed? If so, show them on the home page or make a link for coupons and discounts. Use the image, so people see them and include a text link for the visually impaired. Yes, they eat, too!

Now I'm hungry!

You shouldn't make pizzas out of a can, Autoload. You should make them fresh.
