fresh application install - login fails due to .htaccess redirect

I have seen the rare instance where a .htaccess file in /htdocs will contain a redirect (http://domain.tld -> https://domain.tld) which breaks login mechanisms for some Install Central apps.

If you run into problems logging in to an application you just installed through Install Central, check for a .htaccess file in /htdocs, try to rename it to a different file name and then try logging in to the application again.
