Hello everyone!
I'm back with another website being hosted at Powweb.com! The website is called Baby Picture Generator and it uses cutting edge face recognition and genetical analyzation technology to render an image of what your future child might look like. You can upload a picture of the Mother and a picture of the Father and the application will create a Baby Photo using key features of both parents. Try it out and let me know what you think! Be sure to bookmark us and tell your friends! Thanks |

Would you mind if I told my friends from MySpace to try it? We could post images of our parents to see if our parents are our biological parents or if we should contact Maury Povich! And I can upload images of my husband and me to see if the resulting image looks like our son. For couples that haven't had children, the results could be interesting and surprising.
I may try this later. I hope this isn't one of those sites where the resulting image will look like a monkey, a donkey or something else. ![]() |

I just uploaded a photo of my mom and my dad from 2004. The baby looks like my dad's brother Kenny! It doesn't have hair, so it doesn't look like the babies from our side of the family. Too bad I don't have photos of my parents from 1968 when my twin sister and I were born. That would have been more accurate.
I gotta try photos of my husband and me from 1997 to see if the image looks like our son Mark. Interesting website. |

OK, this is a request for a site review, let's get back to it.

The site does one thing. I tried to do it with a zebra and a horse! This is/was on topic!

I used Ian and Yvette's avatars. Looks like a little Ian.

I was expecting the genetical analyzation technology to produce an error when I uploaded docs and ian's avatars. I think the algorithm should detect when the female sex chromosomes have variability and produce an error.
The picture appeared to be a genetic mutation, however. |

Pictures don't really provide genetic information, so IansDoc's child would probably look a bit wierd. Might as well ask a 1900 number for your perfect match.<sigh>

When I uploaded the images, I was acting as a normal visitor would. They don't know HOW the website works. They just want to see a result that would show some features that match the mother or father. Naturally, some people will post any two photos to see what happens.
That reminds me of my first program as a child, Rock, Paper, Scissors. If it isn't Rock and it isn't Paper, the only choice left is Scissors according to the rules, but when people enter a choice, they may type something else. It is like form validation but back in the 80s, people made simple scripts. If the answer was inappropriate, I asked for one of the three choices. I scolded people who typed profanities. My teacher was shocked, but the students were amused. Back to the website itself, I agree that it is plain and needs more contents as well. Quote:
We should try uploading my twin sister with my husband and see if the child looks the same. Hmmm... (That would freak out my husband.) |

I won't even mention what you get when you cross a CyberMan from Doctor Who with the current mayor of Los Angeles!

Did anyone upload the same image for the mother and father? Would it look like that person as a baby? Hmmm...

I think you should add some examples of what it can do.

Should this be moved to Chit-Chat or are we all still pretending it's a review?

I made some suggested changes, and I'm working on some new features as well! It has currently had almost 5000 unique visits in just 5 days since I registered it!

And how much of that was drummed up by this thread?

I have tried this a few more times and the results are MUCH different than before! I tried a gay couple with one guy as the mother and the other as a father. Then I switched roles for them to see what would happen. Still very disturbing considering how attractive they both are.
I tried one of them with a beautiful women and they still had a mutant child. The original results were more realistic and less comical. I wondered if you through comical results in there randomly or simply changed the resulting images. I would have preferred the software that morphs or merges images rather than the comical results, but most people probably enjoy the comical results. The links at the top are just Google ads and there are no other contents. It would be nice if some people could share their results and possibly send them via email. The email recipients could share the results and visit the website. That would bring more visitors. If you make them visit the website to see the resulting baby image, that would really compel people to visit the website. The father, mother and baby image on the main page is misleading. Though you say that baby image was an actual result, other people are not getting that result. The cute baby image encourages people into uploading images, but results "may" vary. In fact, I tried reuploading the SAME images and got a different result. That happens in real life. If it didn't, all brothers and sisters would look exactly the same. But wow, look what I started! ![]() |

One concern that I have is that the images sometimes bear the source of the image. I hope that they're all clearly labelled (on the original sites) as being copyright free or that you have permission to use their images.
On a technical note, there is no method being used to prevent others using your collection of images. I found it quite easy to view images directly without any fancy coding or hacking. Imagine what a hotlinker would be able to do!

I agree with Ian's concerns, but I wasn't sure if the OP was simply experimenting. It still is a concern.

Considering the picture looks to be randomly generated, you would need to build in a reference to that specific picture when you try to make it viral.
